About

Chris Florence has been involved with all levels of the USSSA since he began his USSSA journey in 2005. Florence began his USSSA in 2005 as the Director of Baseball for the Hampton Youth Club at North Forty Park outside of Atlanta. In 2008, he moved to USSSA Fastpitch teaming up with Jerry Parham to start the Georgia USSSA Fastpitch program. The following year Chris assumed the Area Director title and oversaw all USSSA Fastpitch in the Atlanta area. He eventually became the Director of Tournament Operations for the Georgia USSSA Fastpitch.

In 2009, Florence was introduced to the USSSA national scene when he began volunteering at the Road to Orlando World Series. During his time working with the Road to Orlando, Chris was introduced to Jeremy McDowell. At the time, Chris’s daughter Christen was becoming very active in the elite level game nationally as she competed in one of the top organizations in the country, the Atlanta Vipers. This exposed Chris to the needs of the elite level and how USSSA could expand its reach within the elite game. In 2012, Chris founded the Gold Cup Series in the Atlanta area which brought together the top programs in Georgia under the USSSA umbrella.

When USSSA launched the USA Elite Select program in 2015, Chris Florence was appointed as the National Championship Director. Chris traveled the country the first two years of the program working with state and area USSSA directors, building relationship with elite organizations, and running the National Qualifiers. Additionally, Chris served as the National Director for the World Fastpitch Championship and Futures World Fastpitch Championship helping them both grow to 242 and 75 teams respectively.

He brings a wealth of experience at all levels of USSSA from the grassroots and recreational programs to the elite level in USA Elite Select. He has a passion for growing the sport and a huge passion for helping young athletes compete at the next level.
